Let me ask you this question to start our conversation?
Do you always stand when the anthem is played? And I am not just talking about being at a event, I am talking about even when you're home watching a game, Or whatever event the anthem is played?
So why does it bother so many people when someone doesn't in a stadium?
This whole story begins in Santa Clara California, Where 49'ers QB Colin Kaepernick has refused to stand during the national anthem.This is his choice, His freedom of speech, His given right..
I understand some of the comments I have heard.Oh he's a Muslim(What??),He is a fucking traitor He should move to Russia(another head scratcher),All these comments are people expressing their right of free speech.
So why can't he have his? An it's not just him. Soccer players, Other NFL players have also joined in.
Are they "monsters"For doing this also?
Kaepernick has cited racial injustice and police brutality among the many reasons for his actions and said he plans to continue to not stand for the anthem during the regular season
Now for a rant...
He's right, And I could care less if I lose friends,And or readers for stating this.. But he is 100% in his protest. I do not believe in"Black,Blue, White lives matters movements, ALL LIVES MATTER!!! But innocent people, White, Black are being killed by overzealous police. Now before you think I have lost my mind..... I am not saying all police are trigger happy, But seeing videos and reading some accounts, You have to realize there is a problem!
Now, Back to our regularly scheduled blog...
If you are looking for a barometer of where people stand on the subject, Look no further then Kaepernick's jersey sales, Now the best selling jersey in the NFL. And before you say, Mike, He is making a killing off those sales... He is donating the money he would normally receive.. Doing things like buying book bags for kids in Harlem, And other charitable work..
Look, I'm not saying he is the man of the year, But I am saying this, At a time when politics and name calling have taken over the news, It's a much needed reprise from a very divided country..
We are just a couple days away from the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks,A day this country was attacked by cowards, Who were not e free to speak their minds in their own country.
Men and women have gave their lives, Bled for this country to give you the right of Freedom of speech.Why should someone be punished if their view doesn't match yours?
