The Pittsburgh Pirates continued their lackluster play since we last reported about them.Friday saw starter Zach Duke take his turn on the hill against the hated Phillies.Duke got off to a bad start allowing 6 runs on 9 hits in 6 innings.The bucs tried in vain to get back into the game,But alas they just don't have the bats. Saturday saw the swan song for Matt Morris,And even he had to know he was done after the 1.2 inning suck fest which he gave up 6 runs(3 earned)and 6 hits. Someone must have realized enough is enough,Because Sunday morning the Buccos released Morris,And his 11 million dollar contract.As bad as i feel about someone losing their job,It had to be done.Phil Dumatrait will take over Morris's spot in the rotation for now,The Pirates have recalled pitcher John Van Benschoten from triple A Indianapolis where he had a 4-0 record with an era of 1.88,He will be working out of the bullpen for the time being.Before i get into the Morris situation further,Sunday saw starter Paul Maholm play the best game of the season,Throwing a 99 pitch,2 Hit complete game 5-1.Nate Mclouth woke up from his 2 game slumber,And jacked 3 home runs in 2 games,One nearly splashing into the Allegheny River.Bucs rained out tonight,Will face the Mets at Shea Tuesday night.The Pittsburgh Penguins,After a really stupid 1 day off between games 1,And 2,Shutout the New York Rangers 2-0 on Sunday to take a 2-0 lead in the best of 7 series.I'm pretty sure Sean Avery will have his hands full with a few of the Pens Tuesday night..
