Steelers Draft Recap

The 2010 NFL Draft ended just about 35 minutes ago,And the Steelers went shopping for Linebackers in the late rounds..

With their first pick(#18 overall) The Steelers Picked C/Guard Maurkice Pouncey,A 6'4 304 pounder from Florida. Regarded as the only"Plug and play"Center in the draft.

in 2009 Pouncey started all 14 of the Gators’ games at center and led the nation’s interior linemen with a 91.57 percent grade for blocking consistency, he did not allow a quarterback sack or pressure, nor was he penalized on any of the team’s 919 offensive snaps.

Pouncey started 39-of-41 games during his college career, and in 2009 as a junior became the first player in school history to capture the Rimington Trophy, given annually to the nation’s best center.

In the second round the Steelers selected LB Jason Worilds out of Va Tech.

In 41 games as a Hokie,Worilds  had 15.5 sacks, 75 pressures, 34.5 tackles for loss and caused five fumbles..

Worilds is also a very good run stuffer,Something Pittsburgh needs in the run happy AFC North..

In the third round,The Steelers selected  Emmanuel Sanders.a 5'11 WR from SMU.

Sanders finished as the Mustangs all time leader in receptions(235),Touchdown catches(34)And yards(3,791)..

Look for Sanders to be Hines Ward's replacement when Ward retires.,Another fast WR,Sanders ran a 4.40 40 yard dash at the combines,And had a 39 inch vertical jump,And a 10 foot,10 inch Broad jump.

 In round 4,The Steelers went back to defense,And selected OLB Thaddeus Gibson..The former Buckeye
made 13 stops behind the line of scrimmage in 2009, but he held opponents trying to run into his area to an average of 1.3 yards per carry in 2009.I'll have to ask Shawn about his take on Gibson.I'm sure he's seen much more tape of THE Ohio State games then I have..

The Steelers picked up OL Chris Scott in the fifth round,Scott is a 6'4 319 pounder out of the University of Tennessee. Scott started his last 39 games,And in 2009 helped the Vols offense rush for 159 yards a game,And 19 touchdowns..

With the second fifth round pick,The Steelers brought back Bryant McFadden..The Steelers gave up just the fifth round pick(From the Jets)And also got a sixth round pick in exchange.
