Win a wild card Play in game? Now you are really pushing it. Take the Cardinals..The Great St Louis Cardinals to 5 games in the NLDS? Now I know you need put in a room with comfy padded walls..
But's that is just what this 2013 Pirates team did.. All the above done by a bunch of guys who no one really expected to do much more then play above 500..
Well folks.. They did MUCH more then that! The 2013 Pittsburgh Pirates finished the regular season with a record of 94-68.. That is a whole lot more then Just playing .500 ball!
Then all they did was win a wild card game, And the fans of the Pirates showed what we all thought would happen if we ever had a winning ball club play in the greatest park in the majors!Anyone who watched that game, Will always remember the loud,40,000 plus getting under Reds Pitcher Johnny Cueto's skin..Making him drop the ball, And then serving a blast to Bucs catcher Russell Martin!
Then,When most people said the Bucs have no shot at winning the NLDS, All they did was take the Cards to 5 games.. Oh and this guy named Alvarez made MLB history by having a run batted in his first 6 post season games..
This team was good,Very good.. If not for a power outage from the 1-3 hitters,This series could have been the Pirates.
But That is something to think about on another rainy day.. This rainy,Dreary day will be for all Pirate fans to reflect on a great 2013 season... The season Andrew McCutcheon made a case he is the MVP!
The season Francisco Liriano went from a guy who went 6-12 with a 5.34 earned run average to a 16-8 record with a era just over 3.00.
This was the year we didn't trade away stars.. we gained 3. Will they be signed for 2014 and beyond?
Those issues are for another day.. Today we celebrate the season of 2013 that was..In a word magical..
Thank you Pirates!!! Let's hope 2014 can be just as incredible!!
