The South Atlantic League announced their all stars for 2008 yesterday,Among the notables, From Hagerstown,Catcher Sean Rooney, 1B Bill Rhinehart,And OF Michael Burgess.The Hickory Crawdads,The Pirates Low A Minor League team also had 3 players named.3B Bobby Spain,SS Jose De Los Santos,And IF Miles Durham .I have seen the Hagerstown players up close,And can't argue the selection of the 3 players.As for Hickory,We have not seen them play yet thanks to the SAL schedule that brings Hickory to Hagerstown 1 time a year,And of course this year is not till after the All Stars have been announced.Burgess is a streaky hitter who has a high strike out rate,He's either hitting HR'S,Or striking out.Not alot in between.Rhinehart is an RBI machine,Plays good defense.Rooney is an 8Th rounder in last years draft,and may be one the surprises on this Hagerstown team this year.As for the Crawdads,I can't find any links that have an announcement of their players making the all star team,How sad is this?So i went to MILB.com,Hickory Crawdads: News: Article,That's the best i could do.An update on one of our "favorite"players John Van Benschoten ,Seems like karma is a bitch after allSandlot Swashbucklers .Guess you won't be coming to Pittsburgh for awhile John!Speaking of Pittsburgh, The Bucs had a great promotion during the St Louis series,The outfield reserve seats that normally cost 24 bucks,Would be discounted for every run the Pirates scored while they played the Cards,Well the Bucs scored 27,And this morning the Pirates sold 5,500 tickets in less then 10 minutes,Because they were free!This is something i have not seen done anywhere else,And it's a win/win for teams,If your team scores enough wins to make the tickets free, The fans would be buying stuff with the money saved,If they just get a discount,They are still likely to spend money.The Bucs fans got the free tickets for Wednesdays game thanks to Jason Michaels grand slam on Monday.The Bucs were down 4-0 early on, But Michaels slam,And Jason Bay's single were the difference in the 5-4 win.The Astros were in town tonight to start the Bucs 10 game homestand,And the Bucs could not score a run in the 2-0 loss..Same 2 teams Wednesday.At least we know they'll have 5,500 people in the outfield!

Oakland did a similar promotion earlier in the year.
Makes a lot of sense for the teams that are at the bottom of attendance
