Unlikely Hero in Bucs Win

The Pittsburgh Pirates have played roster go round the last 3 days.With pitchers Ian Snell,And Phil Dumatrait put on the 15 day DL,The Bucs have made alot of moves sending pitchers,And position players to and from Indianapolis.Those moves also had caused a huge amount of roster moves in the last few days across the entire farm system.Let's start with Friday.Jimmy Barthmaier was called up from Indianapolis on Thursday,To start Friday night,And possibly pitch Wednesday if he pitched well on Friday.Jimmy was sent back down to Indy on Friday night,Along with Nyjer Morgan .After giving up 7 runs in 2 1/3 innings!Newly aquried Denny Bautista(No relation to Jose,That I know of)Came in for his Buccos debut,And got the first 2 guys he faced out.Then was hit in the forearm by a come backer to the mound.His status is day to day(Aren't we all)Saturday was the big roster go round day.Ty Taubenheim,RHP T.J. Beam, And one of our "favorites"RHP John Van Benschoten.2 Of these pitchers would work Saturday night against the Rays,Also known as Tampa Bay Rays,Or Devil Rays,Whatever..Yoslan Herrera was sent to Indy on Thursday to replace Barthmaier,And could possibly be the started on Wednesday against the Reds.As for the game last night,Ty Taubenheim worked 6 very effective innings,Only giving up 2 runs on 7 hits.After Tyler Yates worked an inning of no run ball, Jonny Gomes worked a 14 pitch at bat against Dámaso Marte and on the 15Th pitch gone! The score would tied at 3 until the 13Th inning,When Jason Bay drilled a pitch into the rain soaked night.But how we got to the 13Th is what makes this so interesting.John Van Benschoten would pitch in the 13Th,And did not give up a run! This may not sound like alot, But John has pitched with the Bucs before,His career record before last night?1-12 with an ERA of about 8.50.He picks up the win last night,And possibly be staying in Pittsburgh,Sure hope no one asks for his autograph! When is a no hitter not a no hitter?Glad you asked.

Jered Weaver pitched 6 innings of no hit baseball,Allowing 1 unearned run before being pulled for a pinch hitter in the 7Th,This yet another reason to hate Inter league play!The only reason the Dodgers scored the winning run was an error by Weaver in the 5Th inning,Then a pick off attempt that ended up in center field,A sac fly later,The Dodgers had the lead,But never got a hit the rest of the way.MLB changed the rule a few years ago about no hitters.It now states that to have a no hitter, The pitcher,Or pitchers must pitch 9 complete innings of no hit ball.
