Welcome back to our(hopefully) loyal 5 fans, Yes I know it's been a bit.. But I am going to try and get back to a somewhat normal schedule . You know why we're here. Let's get to what has been happening
Hagerstown gets funding for new stadium..
Yeah, You read that correct, $59 million dollars in bonds were approved for a new stadium in the Hub city... My main problem with this is how quickly this was approved after 25 years of basically requesting a first born from the Hagerstown Suns, And some devious plot involving the City of Hagerstown and Washington County... Oh, In case you didn't read my last post...
THE SUNS ARE NO LONGER!!! But.. And I am not sure this how the deal was "so quickly" put together, A semi pro team will be the tenant in this"stadium"
The team will be an Atlantic League team, No idea what the teams name will be, But Good luck playing in what looks something shoe horned into a small space inadequate to hold the "proposed" park.. And, If this does get put in at this location, I guarantee I won't drive through there when a game is being played.. Foul ball used to destroy windshields at the Muni, Imagine what is going to happen when houses a lined all around, And a very active street covers 2 sides!!
Just from the above shown picture, It reminds me of Wilmington Delaware, Their stadium is jammed beside I 95, And sitting on the third base side is putting your life in jeopardy!!!
Don't get me wrong, I` am happy Hagerstown got something after being screwed by the money hungry MLB, But this location is the WORST place you could build!!!
Ironically Tuesday City Council met to decide on a location for a........ Indoor turf "area".. And take a guess where 1 of those spots is? Municipal Stadium site.. You know, The place they have been trying to avoid like the plague .. All these years of back and forth lost you a chance to build beside the Premium Outlets, The land was sold to build more warehouses.. This should have been the number 1 site from the beginning, From the other sites I remember , There's only 1 that makes sense, Behind Municipal Stadium in part of a park..
Now there are a few pluses, Concerts, Pro wrestling, And other events not able to use the muni for whatever reasons, Have a chance to return . All that everyone wants is Hagerstown to have a place for baseball and whatever else you can book for the place, But serious though needs to be used about crime, Close vicinity to a couple senior citizens towers, And displacing businesses that are in the area of the proposed location .. This new "Multi Use Center" can make or break Hagerstown, Doing the right things instead of knee jerk reactions can make a huge difference.. Good luck
