What can be said for a VERY slow day in sports.The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks at PNC this afternoon 6-4.Shawn's favorite Bucco(Actually i like him,Shawn doesn't lol)Phil Dumatrait pitched 5 2/3 innings,Only giving up 2 runs on 4 hits,walking 2 and striking out 3 D backs.Jason Bay finished off the scoring for the Bucs in the 5 run 4TH inning to give the Bucs a 5-1 lead,And chasing D Backs starter Doug Davis after 3 2/3 innings .The Pirates added a insurance run in the 5Th inning off a Jack Wilson single,Scoring Raul Chavez.Leading the Pirates 10 hit attack today,Adam LaRoche,Who went 3 for 4 .Dumatrait has allowed 4 earned runs in 18 2/3 innings,And his ERA in that span is 1.93. Dumatrait is looking good lately, but he's going to need to build up his stamina in order to remain an effective starter in the long-term.
Too often he runs out of gas in the 5th or 6th inning.
You're totally right.I blamed the running out of gas thing on pitching from the pen the first few starts, But it is those late innings,6-8 he starts losing it
